Political moderates have helped destroy the constitutional message of the GOP. Conservatism is rooted in constitutional principles. Without them, the party can go anywhere and stand for virtually anything. While they media may love McCain, I believe people like McCain actually represent the biggest enemies to the GOP’s core principles. The GOP cannot rail against government spending, but then ignore the warfare state they’ve created. It’s incompatible and something the Democrats (rightfully so) hit them with every time they open their mouth. Unless you’re Ron Paul, that is.

There is a false assumption that the American people like moderates, but as we learned with McCain, they don’t. I believe the American people just want honest, principled politicians who govern within a constitutional framework that will sustain our country instead of bankrupting it. Period.

This country needed nothing more than Ron Paul to debate Barack Obama. Ron Paul may have lost, but the seed of true conservatism would have been planted for future generations.. The GOP would now have a sound constitutional platform of small government, non-interventionism and freedom to build upon, rather than the pro-war message of McCain. Ron Paul would have wiped the floor with Obama on issues about personal responsibility, liberty and how seriously we take the constitution. He would have done this in a way that would have created an off-spring of constitutional conservatives around the country. But most importantly he would have directly contrasted his message of personal liberty and responsibility with that of President Obama’s view of an all powerful government.

In the next presidential election, when America is given the choice between the constitution and Obama’s statism, I pray that we choose the constitution. Because as the debt begins taking it’s toll on our country and the United States becomes poorer, the decision’s we make in the next election may very well be our most important ever.

The end of our Republic may be at hand, please pray for it.
